The Center for the Study of Scholastic Discipline
Mission Statement:
The Center for the Study of Scholastic Discipline is committed to fostering
inclusive and equitable educational environments by studying and
advocating for policies that prioritize cultural awareness
and fairness in disciplinary practices.
We strive to promote an educational system where every student is
treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or identity.
Through rigorous research, collaboration with stakeholders, and the
dissemination of evidence-based recommendations, we aim to dismantle
inequitable disciplinary practices and promote positive, restorative approaches
that empower all students to thrive academically and socially.
Our institute is dedicated to advancing justice, equity, and excellence in education for all.
Why we are doing this
Disparate discipline practices in educational institutions have
been shown to disproportionately affect marginalized students,
leading to long-term negative consequences such as the perpetuation
of the "school-to-prison pipeline."
Studies have highlighted the correlation between harsh disciplinary measures and increased likelihood of students entering the criminal justice system instead of receiving the support they need to thrive academically and personally. The Center for the Study of Scholastic Discipline aims to address these issues by advocating for policies that promote fairness, inclusivity, and support for all students.
